About MediaTel Group
Company Background
MediaTel Group was established in 1981. The founders included ex-media directors, who recognised the need for media data to become available faster, and hence online. The company remains independently-owned today.
MediaTel Group was soon regarded as the leading source of online information to the UK media industry, and over 180 different companies now subscribe to our data product MediaTel. Usage of the original MediaTel product continues to increase, with over 2,750 users during 2010.
In 1995, MediaTel Group became a very early adopter of the Internet in the UK - many years ahead of other data suppliers - and is still leading the industry in its use of the medium as an information and communication platform.
In 1998, MediaTel Group won a contract awarded by the CRCA and IPA to define, develop and manage the first online trading platform specifically for the radio industry. J-ET is currently used by the top 19 radio buying points and by all the major sales points in London, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham, handling over 90% of all national radio business in total. J-ET launched in Scotland early in 2006 at four media agencies and five radio sales points. This is an extensive system with over 600 users, 120,000 lines of code, a 55GB database - and requiring formal integration with 17 third party systems. 7 million spots are handled by J-ET annually.
MediaTel's seminar business started in 2005, and now includes a series of highly-regarded morning seminars, full day events, breakfast briefings and Media Playground - which is now in its fourth year and features a networking exhibition and four digital seminars. All of these are based around in-depth panel discussion, not sales-pitch presentations!
Many of MediaTel's events are chaired by Torin Douglas, the BBC Media Correspondent and Raymond Snoddy, the experienced media journalist, who also take part in the invitation-only The Year Ahead each January - when they answer the questions!
MediaTel Group's overall goal is to enable greater efficiency in all aspects of the media process.
