About the technology
J-ET is a PHP system backed by some Java J2EE components for high-performance data crunching. You will not be expected to become involved in the Java development. Some ColdFusion components also remain from when J-ET was intially launched in 1999, though there is an ongoing effort to replace those with PHP (building such functionality from the ground-up.)
The environment includes:
- SQL Server database

- Your choice of IDE (Eclipse, Netbeans, PhpStorm, etc.)
About this role and the team
- Development work is typically new project work rather than maintenance
- As J-ET manages huge quantities of real time data, projects are often data-centric
- Examples of recent projects are diverse however - e.g. a new mobile web-app version of the system; integrated instant messaging functionality
- You will work closely with the team's Development Director and Business Manager, as well as the DBA, data analyst and Client Support Team
- MediaTel has a team of PHP developers; the J-ET team has one other who works remotely
Skills/Experience
Essential:
- PHP 5, JavaScript, SQL and database design
- Object-Oriented and modular programming
- MVC design pattern (ideally you will have Zend Framework experience)
Desirable:
- Front-end development including jQuery and Ajax
- Experience of the full software development lifecycle: from requirements gathering through to testing and delivery
- Knowledge of the Linux command line
- SQL Server experience would be a bonus
General:
- Excellent levels of written and verbal communication
- Enthusiasm and an interest in all things technology is a must
